SIJB Interview Series (Part 2 of 5) – Marius Andrian

As part of Singapore International Jazz Battle (SIJB) 2018, the SIJB Interview Series aims to get to know the very people who form the heart of our jazz community in Singapore.

In this second instalment, we talked to Marius Andrian who is an aspiring pianist and an NUS Jazz Band Alumnus. Marius is also part of this year’s Mosaic Jazz Fellows mentorship programme, and he was a participant in our We Love Jazz Battle (WLJB) 2017, which he has participated as a member of NUS Jazz Band.

When asked about WLJB 2017, he recalls:

I liked the pressure from it being a ‘battle’ because we are pushed to consider different versions of songs (that I wouldn’t normally choose) that would showcase our band’s diverse strengths and tastes in music’

and he summed his WLJB experience saying :

The 2017 WLJ battle enabled musicians to share their love for the music. I was inspired by the creativity showcased during the event, and I am grateful for the opportunity to take part in it.

Let’s hope he will be participating in Singapore International Jazz Battle 2018!

We sat down with him and discussed how he got into this music. Watch the interview here!
