More Jazz In Singapore

In mid 2019, WLJ SG received an invitation from Esplanade to produce a 75-minute live jazz concert, as part of its Feed.Your.Imagination program – an educational arts and culture initiative targeting the awareness, interest and appreciation of the arts among school-aged populations in Singapore.

Seeing it as a timely response to the recent addition of Jazz into Singapore’s O level music syllabus, WLJ SG seized the opportunity to take part in the curation of a jazz advocacy program in collaboration with the Esplanade

Fun & Exciting Learning of Jazz

Our aim together with Esplanade initiative F.Y.I (Feed Your Imagination) is to introduce students to jazz while making the educational journey fun, exciting and fruitful for them. Through our specially selected/arranged compositions, the students will be introduced to a brief history of the music genre that has spread to different corners of the world today. The programme will explore essential jazz elements such as blues, swing, and improvisation as well as the genre’s unique socio-political history. To make this discovery process unforgettable, Esplanade and we have discussed literally countless times to include some musical surprises and interactive elements for the kids too. Here is our set list :

Our rehearsal has been very productive and we are getting truly excited. We hope to share some of the footages for you to have a taste as well. For further detail and enquiries about ticketing, please contact the Esplanade from [ here ]

We Love Jazz SG’s Role

For this project, our task is to program, and manage all parts of the concert. Some of our org members are artistic directors and performers as well.

Though we have worked on many projects since our formation, this will be the biggest event that WLJ SG has ever undertaken. We are extremely excited to be able to showcase and raise awareness and appreciation of jazz to the students and general public of Singapore. We at WLJ SG are all artists and avid lovers of jazz, and some of us are going to become the next generation’s advocates for jazz and all other forms of music in general. We take pride in managing and producing event such as this.

It is our sincere hope that schools and students will be willing to take a trip with us through the history of jazz and how it is going to shape our country’s arts scene moving forward. We promise that it will be an afternoon to remember, and that everyone at the concert is going to be in for a big treat!
